I'm asked a lot about hanging pictures. Sometimes a client comes with a space to be filled, but often they will fall in love with a painting and then need to make it work in their home or office.
There is a rule of thumb that the middle of a painting or artwork should sit 57-60" (145-150cm) off the floor. However, if a piece is going to sit in the eye line of seated viewers – maybe opposite a sofa or desk – the artwork would look more natural further down the wall. When a client asked if we had a guide to help them to hang their new painting we realised that it would be a good idea to have a chart for customers who need one. Instead of giving them the faff of finding the middle of a painting and measuring downwards from there, we decided to measure from the top of the painting to the floor. They loved it so we thought we would share in case it's useful to other art lovers.
